- 1 pound turnip greens
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 4 cups chicken broth
- 1 smoked ham hock
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Wash the turnip greens thoroughly and remove any tough stems.
- In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat.
- Add the onion and garlic, sauté until soft.
- Pour in the chicken broth and add the ham hock.
- Add the turnip greens, salt, and pepper.
- Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes.
- Remove the ham hock, shred the meat and return it to the pot.
- Serve hot.
Notes
- Turnip greens can be substituted with mustard greens if desired.
- For a vegetarian version, omit the ham hock and use vegetable broth.
