Ingredients

  • 1 pound elbow macaroni
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 4 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cook the elbow macaroni in boiling salted water until al dente; drain and set aside.
  3. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour, salt, pepper, cayenne, and garlic powder for about 1 minute.
  4. Gradually add milk, whisking to prevent lumps. Cook until it thickens.
  5. Stir in cheese until melted.
  6. Add cooked macaroni to cheese sauce and mix well.
  7. Pour into a greased baking dish, top with breadcrumbs, and bake for 30 minutes.
  8. Let cool for a few minutes before serving.
