- 10 cups apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a large pot, combine the apples and sugar. Stir well to coat the apples with sugar.
- Add cinnamon, cloves, and salt. Mix thoroughly.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, until the apples are soft and the mixture begins to bubble.
- Reduce heat and simmer for about 1.5 to 2 hours, stirring occasionally until thickened.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
- Allow to cool slightly before transferring to jars.
- Let cool completely and store in the refrigerator.

- For smoother apple butter, blend the mixture with an immersion blender after cooking.
- This apple butter can last in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks or can be canned for longer storage.
