Description

These classic gingerbread cookies are perfect for the holiday season.


Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon ground ginger
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 large egg


Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, baking soda, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar until smooth.
  3. Add the molasses and egg to the butter mixture and mix until well combined.
  4. Chill the dough in the refrigerator for at least one hour.
  5. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  6. Roll out the dough on a floured surface and cut into desired shapes.
  7. Place cookies on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes.
  8. Let cookies cool on a wire rack before decorating.

Notes

  • These cookies can be decorated with royal icing once cooled.
  • Store in an airtight container for up to a week.
