These classic gingerbread cookies are perfect for the holiday season.
Ingredients

- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon ground ginger
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 1 large egg
Instructions
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar until smooth.
- Add the molasses and egg to the butter mixture and mix until well combined.
- Chill the dough in the refrigerator for at least one hour.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface and cut into desired shapes.
- Place cookies on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes.
- Let cookies cool on a wire rack before decorating.
Notes
- These cookies can be decorated with royal icing once cooled.
- Store in an airtight container for up to a week.
